A Gift of Art (with Thanks)

Recently, I was fortunate enough to be chosen as one of the winners of Jazz Green's 'Christmas Art Giveaway', thus this post celebrates the arrival of the result of this generous gesture, the gift of an original work of art, a fine start to the new year indeed, for which deep thanks are due & duly offered across cyberspace.

Pictured is 'untitled IV', a postcard-sized collage of various painted, subtly-coloured paper strips which thus give the work a sense of shallow relief & texture, along with an appreciation of the process of its making, of paint stroked & marks made across a surface, very much up our street here at TOoT.

It's lovely to be in receipt of an original work of art, the experience made all the more delightful for the exquisite & careful manner in which the piece was packaged in order to be mailed, not least within a copy of the artist's card, picturing & in itself another example of Jazz's art.

Having become aware of Jazz Green's art probably a couple of years ago now & subsequently followed its progress with great interest & admiration since via the artist's own website (www.jazzgreen.com), I strongly urge anyone to visit this exemplary resource for a fuller appreciation & understanding of her aesthetic & philosophy, as communicated through the media of painting, printmaking, photography (fabulous 'found' paintings) &, by no means least, artist's journal (also featuring some wonderful drawings), which, to paraphrase its tagline, is indeed a marvellous distillation of the landscape (including human intervention within) as encountered - in all its colour, texture & natural temporal processes of weathered erosion, decay & transformation - & the inspiration & beauty to be found in such abundant subject matter. Jazz's words & works do the job of description so much better, so please pay a visit...

Thank you so much for your praise of my art - and the little plug for my 'blog'. I am delighted to read that such a modest piece of work brings some joy to its new owner.

You're welcome, & most deserving, Jazz - & thank you again.
